The Jaguars announced Monday that they've exercised the fifth-year option on the rookie contract for Edge Travon Walker. That'll keep him with the team through at least 2026. Walker's heading into his fourth season this fall.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson: "They are expected to ultimately sign him to a huge long-term deal."
Picking up the option certainly came as no surprise. Jacksonville drafted Walker first overall back in 2022, and he tallied 10 and 10.5 sacks the past two seasons.
Whether that big extension happens -- and if it does, just how large it winds up being -- should tell us a bit more on Walker's valuation.
The sack numbers have looked good the past two years. But Walker tied for just 22nd among edge players in total pressures last year despite getting the position's fifth-most rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
I'd bet on Walker getting the extension. But don't let it push your IDP expectations too high.
