The Chargers are signing TE Tyler Conklin to a one-year deal. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that it carries a $3 million base value, with a max of $4.5 million. Conklin spent the past three years with the Jets after beginning his career with four seasons in Minnesota.
TE Will Dissly finished fourth among Chargers in targets and third in receptions per game last season. He remains under contract through 2026 at about $4.7 million in annual contract average.
Conklin topped 50 receptions each of the past four seasons but will have a tough time getting there again.
His arrival could also be bad news for Dissly. Last year's No. 2 TE, Stone Smartt, caught just 19 passes for the season.
Conklin should surpass that, which could cut into Dissly's usage.
As long as you don't head toward 2025 excited about any Chargers TE, you'll be OK. We'll see, of course, whether they add any significant TE in the draft.
