The Cowboys signed RB Miles Sanders to a one-year deal. He joins Javonte Williams in a backfield that lost 2024 lead back Rico Dowdle in free agency. We're still fully expecting Dallas to add more RB help in the draft considering Sanders and Williams are coming off disappointing 2024 seasons.
Sanders finished with a career-low 55 carries across 11 games last year, operating as the clear No. 2 RB behind Chuba Hubbard. He averaged just 3.7 yards per carry -- which was actually an improvement over the 3.3 yards per carry he mustered in 2023. Sanders' 3.5 yards per carry across the last two seasons ranks 61st out of 65 qualifying RBs.
New teammate Javonte Williams sits just a couple of spots above Sanders on that list. Sanders actually beat Williams last year in yards after contact per attempt and missed tackles forced per attempt.
A Sanders + Williams backfield would be one of the most lifeless in the NFL. We're still fully expecting the Cowboys to add at least one RB in next month's draft, especially considering Sanders and Williams both signed just one-year deals.
For now, we're still not very interested in either veteran in fantasy drafts. We'll re-assess the situation if Dallas doesn't add significant competition in the draft.
