The Jaguars have released TE Evan Engram. That removes the player who caught 66 more passes than any other Jaguar since the start of 2022. Dumping Engram will save Jacksonville nearly $6 million in cap space, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He'll turn 31 just before the start of the 2025 season.
WR Christian Kirk joined Engram in the top two among Jaguars over the past three seasons in:
So the Jaguars have now unloaded their top two receivers over that span.
Rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr., of course, took over the lead last season and returns and the clear top pass catcher. It looks rough behind him, though. TE Brenton Strange and WR Parker Washington finished second and third on the team in receiving yards last year.
Engram should land another contract. We'll see whether it finds him as the new team's clear lead TE.
Strange -- a second-round pick in 2023 -- is an obvious winner for now. He grabbed fantasy attention with 11 catches in a Week 15 loss to the Jets last season but reached 4 receptions in just three other games.
We'll see whether the Jaguars -- with a new coach and new GM -- make other moves at TE.
I'd bet on the team adding a pass-catcher or two via free agency and/or the draft.
I'd try to pass on Engram in best ball drafts at least until he lands with another team. It's possible no team gets excited about a 31-year-old TE who averaged just 8.2 yards per catch over the past two years.
We'll see where his ADP settles if he does find a suitor.
Strange still belongs low in TE2 range. This draft class holds a fair number of TE options, and the new Jags regime didn't pick Strange.
