The Patriots on Sunday morning announced the least surprising news of this coaching cycle by naming Mike Vrabel as new head coach.
Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston: "Mike Vrabel becoming the team’s next head coach was the expectation from the beginning, even after interviewing Lions OC Ben Johnson.
More from Perry: "Assumption in league circles is that Josh McDaniels is the top choice at OC, but we’ll see."
Vrabel went 54-45 across six seasons as Titans HC. That span opened with four straight winning campaigns -- including records of 11-5 in 2020 and 12-5 in 2021 -- before two straight losing years ended his time.
We've seen enough of Vrabel to know he's a solid choice to lead the team. More important for fantasy purposes will be the selection of coordinators and position coaches.
McDaniels obviously carries a lot of history with New England and a pretty strong record of offensive success. Most of that came with Tom Brady, of course, which challenges the analysis.
But McDaniels most recently helmed the 2021 Patriots offense that finished sixth in scoring in QB Mac Jones' rookie season. Then came his second unsuccessful HC run (1.5 years with the Raiders).
We'll see whether Vrabel and the Pats actually settle on McDaniels and who else arrives to pilot QB Drake Maye and crew.
