Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has been diagnosed with a "mild" right high-ankle sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "He's still considered week-to-week," Rapoport adds.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Mahomes obviously couldn't say right after Sunday's win over the Browns whether he'd be ready for Week 16. And we might not know his status until the end of the week.
But you should plan as though you won't have Mahomes available for your Week 16 fantasy lineup -- and make sure you have Week 17 insurance as well.
The Chiefs play Houston at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday in Week 16, giving Mahomes an even shorter turnaround. And "week-to-week" tends to lead to a player missing at least one game.
Kansas City then gets another short turnaround for a Christmas Day game (Wednesday) in Week 17.
That's two more games within 10 days of spraining his ankle.
And Kansas City should care more about making sure it's QB is ready for the playoffs than fighting for the No. 1 seed. The Chiefs made last year's Super Bowl as the No. 3 seed in the AFC.
We'll certainly keep watching for updates throughout the week. Carson Wentz would start against the Texans if Mahomes can't go.
