Lions QB Jared Goff set season highs Sunday in pass attempts (59), completions (38), passing yards (494), and TDs (5) in the loss to the Bills. He found five different teammates for TDs, as Detroit dropped back more than four times as much as it ran the ball.
The Bills jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and led by 2+ scores for most of this game. That drove the Detroit passing volume.
So the takeaway here is not that the Lions decided to lean pass. But rather that they produced big numbers when the game script pushed things that way.
It didn't hurt that Buffalo was missing both starting safeties and CB Rasul Douglas.
Detroit visits Chicago and San Francisco the next two weeks. Neither defense has been as tough on QB scoring as Buffalo was before Sunday. But both opponents also bring weaker offenses than Buffalo's.
You should obviously expect Goff to come way down from his 59 attempts against the Bills. Will he get all the way back down into the 20s?
Goff attempted 34 passes against the Bears on Thanksgiving, throwing for 221 yards and 2 TDs.
The Detroit QB ultimately looks decent for the final two fantasy weeks. Expect Goff to land around the QB1 fringe in our rankings.
