Gus Edwards led Chargers RBs in carries (10) and rushing yards (36) and claimed the team's only rushing score in Sunday night's loss to the Chiefs. But rookie RB Kimani Vidal beat him in playing time. Vidal played 32 snaps to Edwards' 26, including a 17-10 edge in pass routes, according to Pro Football Focus.
Vidal also garnered 8 carries and edged Edwards in yards per rush (4.3 to 3.6) in the second game since J.K. Dobbins landed on IR.
The next two weeks bring the Bucs and Broncos, who rank 10th and third, respectively, in run-defense DVOA. Those matchups could similarly favor Vidal's usage.
Of course, the rookie drew just 1 target against K.C. and has tallied only 3 receptions all year. He's not likely to help your fantasy lineup this season.
And the NBC broadcast told us that Dobbins expects to be ready for Week 17. His return for that upside matchup with the Patriots looks like the best chance at the Chargers backfield delivering fantasy value.
