The 49ers expect to get LB Dre Greenlaw back for the Week 15 game against the Rams. He has put in limited practices each day of the past two weeks but was still ruled out for this Sunday's game against the Bears. Greenlaw, of course, has yet to play this season because he's recovering from the Achilles' rupture he suffered in the Super Bowl.
GM John Lynch on Friday: "We've had that Thursday night game against the Rams as that target date. Hopefully, we can stay on that. It's kind of a day-by-day thing. We're going to make sure he's right. But it's even more important to win a game like this {Sunday vs. Bears] because you get a guy like that [returning], who we all know what he does for our football team when he's out there."
DC Nick Sorenson: "He’s looked good. I think he feels good. I think with him it’s day-to-day in hoping that he feels good today and then he feels better tomorrow and we’ll see. But he looks good. I think he’s enjoying it, being back out there. He looks great. He looks like Dre."
We probably can't expect full playing time from Greenlaw in his first game back. And he'll still be just 10 months removed from the Achilles' injury.
The 49ers don't appear to be rushing him back. But it's also worth noting that Greenlaw's in the final year of his contract.
The team has incentive to get him ready for potential postseason action. It doesn't necessarily have incentive to care about his well-being beyond 2024.
Greenlaw's stashable in IDP leagues of at least modest depth ahead of his expected Week 15 return. He probably won't make sense as a lineup option until at least Week 16, though.
LB De'Vondre Campbell is likely to hand over his lineup spot to Greenlaw, making him unusable in IDP leagues as soon as Week 15.
We'll keep an eye on the whole situation.
