Former Giants QB Daniel Jones has been granted his release from the team after being demoted to QB3 on the team over their bye week. His large contract makes it likely that Jones will last through waivers but if he hits open free agency, there should be plenty of interest with the current NFL QB landscape.
What They're Saying
New York Giants President John Mara: "Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Jones was benched for QB Tommy DeVito and then moved to QB3 behind Drew Lock as well.
Though Jones rightfully isn't a top starting NFL QB his experience, rushing ability and flashes are better than some of the current QBs starting in the league.
Teams like the Raiders, Jaguars and Cowboys could have interest in bringing Jones in to try and leave a positive impression on an otherwise bad season.
Despite his lack of consistent QB talent, Jones has provided the occasional solid fantasy performance, mostly due to his legs. If he does end up starting this season, he could fall back into low-end QB2 range in good match-ups.
He is an easy drop now, but in a Superflex league, it is a good idea to hold and see what happens.
We will update with any free agency news about Jones.
