The Raiders are expected to start QB Desmond Ridder vs. the Dolphins this weekend, according to The Athletic's Vic Tafur. The news is buried in an article about the general state of the Raiders -- and we haven't seen it reported anywhere else. But we'll go with it for now.
QB Gardner Minshew has been predictably subpar in his eight appearances, while QB Aidan O'Connell remains on IR for at least one more week.
Ridder came in for mop-up duty in the Week 9 loss to the Bengals, completing 11 of 16 passes for 74 yards, one TDs, and 0 INTs. He made 17 starts for the Falcons across the previous two seasons and owns a career 64% completion rate and 7.0 yards per attempt.
Ridder is unlikely to be a significant upgrade over Minshew or O'Connell but at least brings some mobility to the position. Ridder ran a 4.52-second 40-yard dash at the Combine and has averaged 14.5 rushing yards across his 17 NFL starts.
