Niners QB Brock Purdy scored a rushing TD for the second straight game in Sunday night's win over the Cowboys. The latest came on a 2-yard QB sneak in the third quarter and gives Purdy a new career high for rushing TDs in a season (3). But he has significantly boosted his ground production beyond that.
Purdy rushed eight times for 56 yards against Dallas (including a kneel down to end the game). That marked his second straight game with 8 attempts and third this season with at least that many.
Purdy's 5.3 rushes per contest in 2024 nearly double his 2.4 per game for each of his first two NFL seasons. The QB has also increased his yards per carry each year, from 0.6 as a rookie to 3.7 last year and now 5.0 in 2024.
According to Pro Football Focus, Purdy has already scrambled more this season than he did all of last year. He entered Sunday night with 24, matching his 2023 total -- and then scrambled five more times against the Cowboys.
Purdy ran just a 50th-percentile 40 time among QBs as a prospect. But his increased rushing production this season lines up more with his college play.
Purdy averaged 24.5 rushing yards per game through four seasons at Iowa State, even with sack yardage subtracted. He's at 26.3 per game this season after going for just 9.0 per game in 2023.
Purdy ranks eighth among QBs in total carries this season and tied for eighth in rushing yards.
His elevated production in that area can only help both his fantasy floor and ceiling.
After the Week 9 bye, Purdy gets high-upside matchups with the Bucs and Seahawks. The schedule gets a lot tougher after that, though, with six straight negative matchups to close the fantasy season -- according to our adjusted fantasy points allowed.
That doesn't mean you won't be able to use Purdy over that stretch. But he might be a "Sell" candidate after Week 11.
At the least, you'll want to pair the 49er with another QB ahead of your fantasy playoffs.
