Chargers WR Ladd McConkey popped off for 111 yards and 2 TDs in Sunday’s win over New Orleans. He caught all six of his targets, good for an 18.8% target share. TE Will Dissly and RB J.K. Dobbins led the way with seven targets apiece.
Here's QB Justin Herbert on McConkey's impact.
“He’s a complete receiver,” Herbert said after the win. “To have that short game, those intermediate routes, he’s been so good at it, especially on third down. And now you open up some of those go balls that you got to respect. And for him to be able to line up anywhere, inside, outside, we got a true ballplayer on our hands.”
The rookie entered with 4+ catches in three straight, and his solid stretch continued against a slumping Saints defense.
McConkey scored on a deep ball that found him in a contest situation vs. CB Alontae Taylor. From there, he evaded two tackles en route to a 60-yard score. Later, McConkey scored on an end zone scramble drill where the Saints DB seemed to lose track of the ball.
Regardless, Sunday marked a huge momentum builder for McConkey, who stepped up with L.A. missing several WRs.
Even if the Chargers get their guys back for Week 9, McConkey will be a WR3 option against Cleveland.
