Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf caught just three of 11 targets for 48 scoreless yards in Thursday night's loss to the 49ers. But, in an alternate universe, Metcalf catches five balls for 102 yards and two TDs. He just missed a two-yard score at the end of the first half when his second foot landed one inch out of bounds. Then, in the fourth quarter, Metcalf caught a 52-yard TD that was negated by an illegal shift penalty that had zero impact on the play.
This was a super frustrating game for Metcalf owners. On top of the two missed TDs, Metcalf also dropped a couple of balls that he usually catches.
But there's nothing to worry about going forward. Metcalf's 11 targets led the team and were a solid 21.2% of the team total. He's at a 21.5% target share on the season -- which looks even better when you consider that Seattle leads the league with 41.8 pass attempts per game.
Metcalf still looks like a fringe WR1. If you don't already own him, this is a great time to send a trade offer.
Metcalf gets plus matchups against the Falcons and Rams sandwiching a tougher draw vs. the Bills over the next three weeks. The Seahawks then get a Week 10 bye.
