Lions WR Jameson Williams caught just one pass for 9 yards in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Low passing volume for the team didn't help. Detroit threw just 23 passes and dropped back on a mere 38.2% of offensive snaps. Williams' 3 targets actually tied for third on the team.
Only Amon-Ra St. Brown (8) and TE Brock Wright (5) drew more targets than Williams vs. Arizona.
His 24 routes trailed St. Brown's lead by just two and beat all other teammates by eight.
We're working with all small samples just three games into the season. But I'd bet on this simply being a down game rather than a signal we shouldn't believe Williams' usage from the first two weeks.
Detroit went 21 rushes vs. 13 dropbacks in the first half and then opened the second half protecting a 20-10 lead.
QB Jared Goff also went from 12-of-12 passing in the first half to 6-of-11.
Expect Williams to be back in the WR3 mix for a Week 4 home date with the Seahawks.
It's worth noting that Amon-Ra St. Brown drew 34.8% of Lions pass attempts in this game, marking his second straight week of more than 30% target share after a down opener.
St. Brown's role as clear lead target is undoubtedly safer than Williams' weekly standing.
