Niners QB Brock Purdy threw for 319 yards and a TD in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. But he also tossed an INT and took 6 sacks.
Purdy to Vikings DC Brian Flores after the game: "Your scheme is crazy."
That quote -- caught amid post-game handshakes -- emphasizes how uncomfortable Purdy was during the game. This marks the second straight year he and the 49ers have lost at Minnesota.
Purdy particularly struggled against Minnesota's blitz, turning the ball over twice in addition to the six sacks. That wasn't a particular issue for him last season, though. Purdy ranked 11th in Pro Football Focus passing grade when pressured and tied for seventh in completion rate.
His stat line wound up OK against the Vikings as well, ranking 12th among fantasy QBs for the week ahead of the Monday night game.
Purdy also saw increased playing time for WR Brandon Aiyuk, who went from 60% snap share in the opener to 87%. More Aiyuk can only help the passing numbers going forward.
Week 3 holds a matchup with the Rams, who just allowed Kyler Murray 266 yards and 3 TD passes on just 21 attempts.
Purdy figures to be a lot more comfortable for that game and belongs around the bottom of QB1 territory.
A home date with the Patriots the following week should be at least a bit more challenging.
