Chargers WR Quentin Johnston scored twice in Sunday’s game against Carolina. The second-year pro totaled 51 yards on 5 catches in a blowout win.
Sunday was by far QJ’s best performance of his young career. Facing a hapless Carolina defense certainly helped, but Johnston really turned heads with a contested, downfield TD vs. CB Jaycee Horn.
Later, he broke free in the end zone for a 5-yard score. It looked like busted coverage from the Panthers' secondary.
Note: QB Justin Herbert briefly left Sunday’s game after taking a hard hit, but he ultimately returned.
It’s also worth factoring in the health of WR Josh Palmer, who missed Friday’s practice with a knee injury. He ultimately suited up today but garnered only 2 targets. Meanwhile, rookie WR Ladd McConkey garnered 4 targets (20%).
Johnston will look to continue rolling in a tough Week 3 draw vs. Pittsburgh. He'll be tough to trust for that one, at least in standard-sized leagues.
After that comes another negative draw vs. Kansas City.
This performance won't force a major adjustment to the WR dynasty rankings. But if Johnston strings more performances like this together, he'll certainly draw a boost in value.
