Bucs WR Mike Evans turned 31 years old in August. But he looked squarely in his prime against an overmatched Washington secondary. Seeing 6 targets -- tied for second on the team -- Evans tallied 5-61-2. That marked his third game with 2 TDs since Week 12 of last season.
Evans scored both of his TDs on end zone balls in tight coverage. In what might end up being his best matchup of the year, Evans truly delivered alongside an efficient Baker Mayfield. Note: Mayfield completed 80% of his passes and notched 9.63 yards per attempt.
Here's Evans on his primary defender -- and one particularly impressive TD grab:
“(Benjamin) St.-Juste is a physical corner, tall corner; a couple inches shorter than me, and he played physical, he played the ball good. (Mayfield) just threw a better ball, and I had strong hands at the end.”
Week 1 gave us no indication that Evans is on the decline. With Baker Mayfield also showing well, consider this a best-case scenario for the Bucs and new OC Liam Coen. We're certainly on board with Coen's decision to utilize more pre-snap motion, which helped cause confusion against Washington.
Tampa Bay will look to continue rolling against a young Detroit secondary in Week 2.
RB TreVeyon Henderson’s highlight reel screams fantasy stardom — but is he built to handle more than a complementary role?
