A Saints source told The Athletic's Dianna Russini that the "vibes are really, really high" around rookie QB Spencer Rattler. Rattler was a five-star recruit and the No. 1 pro-style QB in the 2019 class, so there's certainly plenty of physical ability here. Russini said that there's currently no QB controversy in New Orleans but added that that could change if QB Derek Carr struggles this season.
More from Russini: "Once things go a little weird, could they be calling for the backup? The New Orleans Saints have a really good QB situation right now in terms of if Derek Carr doesn't pan out, they have a lot of confidence in what their backup in Rattler can do."
The Saints offense is unlikely to be very good this season. Implied totals have them as the eighth-worst offense in the league. So it's certainly possible that there are calls for Rattler at some point this year.
That doesn't make him rosterable in 1-QB redraft leagues -- or even in standard-sized superflex redraft leagues. But in superflex leagues with 20+ roster spots, Rattler might be worth a stash.
He should also be rostered in basically all superflex dynasty leagues and some deep 1-QB formats.
This isn't the greatest look for Carr, who wasn't an exciting fantasy option to begin with. He sits 29th in our 2024 QB Rankings.
