Dolphins WR Odell Beckham will miss the first four games of the season on the PUP list due to an undisclosed procedure he had in the offseason. The Dolphins knew about the procedure and want him to ease into game action.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network: Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Jr. will remain on the PUP list to begin the regular season, sidelining him for the first four games, sources tell me. The team knew when it signed OBJ in May this was a possibility due to an offseason procedure he had. He’s worked hard to get back, but ultimately, the team felt the best path for him was to spend a few more weeks to ease into game action so he is healthy for the duration of season.
Beckham has been the favorite to be the third WR on the depth chart behind WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle for the Dolphins this season.
Starting on the PUP will give rookie WR Malik Washington and veteran Braxton Berrios a chance to establish a role for themselves.
With the Dolphins knowing about this procedure, it is likely they are planning on Beckham being more of a force late in the season than early.
