Mike Klis of 9News reports that the Broncos are "moving on from" WR Tim Patrick. Klis says the team is looking into trade opportunities and that Patrick is "generating strong interest" on the market. The league-wide roster cutdown deadline comes Tuesday.
This news is a little surprising, because Patrick had been running among Denver's top three WRs. His departure probably won't make a huge fantasy impact, but it does open opportunity in an offense without a target hog.
WR Courtland Sutton easily led Broncos wideouts in production last year, but he also ranked just 40th at the position in target share.
Free-agent addition Josh Reynolds has been the third member of that top three. he arrives off averaging 2.5 receptions per game across his two full seasons in Detroit.
Patrick turns 31 in late November, is coming off losing both 2022 and 2023 to injuries, and topped out at 53 receptions and 742 yards in Denver.
We'll see where he lands next.
WR Marvin Mims certainly has a chance to become a winner here. We've been expecting a step up in Year 2, but he had been running behind the three aforementioned players in preseason.
We'll have to actually see an increased role -- including targets -- in the wake of any Patrick move. But fewer blockers to that opportunity certainly can't hurt.
Don't expect much rankings or ADP impact. Sutton has been the highest-drafted Denver WR by a wide margin, and even his ADP sits low in WR4 range.
This passing game might provide some sneaky late-round upside, but we're not betting on big fantasy impact.
