Patriots QB Drake Maye has outplayed QB Jacoby Brissett according to HC Jerod Mayo. With Brissett suffering a right shoulder injury in yesterday's preseason along with Maye outplaying Brissett, the Patriots appear close to having Maye start the season as the starter.
HC Jerod Mayo: “It's a true competition, and I would say at this current point, Drake has outplayed Jacoby.”
The thought around the QB situation for the Patriots have centered around Brissett starting the season as the veteran QB, but Maye appears to have pulled ahead in the competition and may be named the starter soon.
Mayo stopped just short of naming Maye the Week 1 starter, but the rookie appears to be on his way to start the season for the Patriots.
The Patriots offense remains one of the worst in the league on paper, as well as with sportsbook's implied point totals for the season.
Maye would certainly be a potential upgrade on Brissett due to his physical talents, rushing, and overall upside. He may be able to unlock skill position players like Rhamondre Stevenson, Ja'Lynn Polk, and others.
Fantasy players should hope for Maye to be named the starter soon.
There could be a bump in value and ADP for the Patriots offensive pieces if Maye gets the job.
