Steelers HC Mike Tomlin suggested Thursday that QB Russell Wilson remains the favorite to be the Week 1 starter. Tomlin also said that Wilson will start Saturday's preseason finale.
Tomlin when asked whether Wilson is still in "pole position" for the starting job: "Nothing’s changed, in terms of the positioning of those guys."
Wilson has had a tough August, missing time with a calf injury and struggling in Pittsburgh's second preseason game.
QB Justin Fields, meanwhile, has flashed but has also continued to be plagued by inconsistency. If this race is a tie, it'd make sense for Pittsburgh to side with the more stable veteran out of the gate.
We're ultimately expecting both of these guys to make starts this season, though. And for neither to post big passing numbers. Fields can at least add significant fantasy value with his legs.
Outside of 2-QB and superflex leagues, neither guy is worth drafting.
