Broncos WR Troy Franklin has struggled in training camp, but the Broncos appear to want to keep developing him slowly. With the team preferring veterans like Tim Patrick, Franklin could be in line for a redshirt or special teams year only.
Cody Roark of Mile High Sports: "Despite having a quiet training camp amidst reports of struggles, the team is invested in Troy Franklin’s continued development, and they are in a position where they don’t need him to be a number one, two, or three right away as a rookie. He’ll likely redshirt or play some special teams."
Franklin was drafted in the fourth round by the Denver Broncos to pair with his college QB Bo Nix.
But, Franklin has had a poor training camp and appears to be on the bottom of the WR depth chart.
As seen in the most recent preseason game, HC Sean Payton seems to prefer veteran WRs like Tim Patrick and Josh Reynolds. Franklin doesn't appear close to getting playing time.
Cody Roark of Mile High Sports reports that the team wants to take Franklin's development slowly and redshirt him for a year.
With Franklin seemingly also behind fellow rookie WR Devaughn Vele, the odds of Franklin having any redraft value is slim to none.
It is positive that the Broncos won't immediately give up on Franklin, but a Year 1 Zero for Franklin lowers his chances of ever making a dynasty impact as well.
It may be a bit premature to cut bait if you drafted Franklin in Round 2 or 3 of a rookie draft, but his value will bottom out even more if he is merely a special teams player as a rookie.
