Giants rookie RB Tyrone Tracy left practice Tuesday morning on a cart and with an air cast on his right ankle, according to multiple reports. He will undergo imaging at the Hospital for Special Surgery. We're awaiting word on the specifics of his injury.
What They're Saying
Dan Duggan of The Athletic: "Looks like a major injury for rookie RB Tyrone Tracy. He muffed a kickoff and his right ankle/lower leg appeared to buckle as he reached for the ball. They immediately put an air cast on his right leg and carted him off."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Tracy has reportedly been leading the competition for the No. 2 RB job behind starter Devin Singletary. That included starting ahead of Eric Gray in the preseason opener over the weekend.
If the Giants lose Tracy, they'd likely at least consider adding a free agent to the RB depth chart. Gray totaled just 23 touches as a 2023 rookie and averaged only 3.0 yards per touch.
The next guy behind him appears to be Dante Miller, who has generated some camp buzz but also is 25, doesn't have an NFL touch yet, and totaled just 278 career touches at Columbia.
Other Winners & Losers
Singletary might be the biggest winner if this turns out to be a serious injury for Tracy.
The rookie looked like the biggest threat to the veteran's touches, by virtue of his explosive speed and still-developing RB skills.
If Tracy misses significant time, the Giants might prove less willing to take Singletary off the field.
