Lions TE Sam LaPorta has missed recent practice time with a hamstring strain. The injury popped up last week, per beat writer Justin Rogers. HC Dan Campbell said he doesn’t expect a lengthy absence for the second-year TE.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Week 1 is over one month away, so we’re not concerned about the recent absence.
His offensive environment remains largely intact from 2023. QB Jared Goff returns -- as does play-calling mastermind Ben Johnson.
Last year, Detroit ranked 3rd in plays per game, 3rd in yards, and 5th in points. That infrastructure helped support 86 catches, 889 yards, and 10 TDs for LaPorta. He drew a near 21% target share.
All told, the rookie ranked as the overall TE1 across formats.
Currently, LaPorta sits comfortably as a top-3 option in our fantasy TE rankings.
Dynasty Impact
Nothing to see here. LaPorta remains locked in at No. 1 in our TE dynasty rankings.
Injury History
LaPorta played all 17 regular season games in 2023. He added two postseason contests, where he totaled 18 catches.
His injury history includes a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise from last January. In college, LaPorta suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee (November, 2022).
