Eagles HC Nick Sirianni sees some Danny Woodhead in rookie RB Will Shipley. Sirianni was with Woodhead with the Chargers from 2013 to 2016. Woodhead averaged 6.4 carries and 4.5 catches per game across those four seasons.
What They're Saying
“He plays big, I think," Sirianni said of Shipley. "When you look at him, he’s built. His lower body is really built. ... There’s things about him that remind me of Danny Woodhead ... The way they're kinda built remind me of each other. And some of the things that they do. I look forward to him continuing to progress. We're really excited about him."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
For the record, Shipley checked into this year's Combine at 5'11, 206 pounds. Woodhead was last listed at 5'8 and 204 pounds.
Like Woodhead, Shipley is a talented pass-catching back. He tallied 85 receptions over three seasons at Clemson, including 69 over the last two years.
Unfortunately, he didn't land in a good spot to maximize that ability. In three seasons under QB Jalen Hurts, the Eagles have ranked 24th, 31st, and 16th in RB receptions.
It's a ding against Shipley's dynasty outlook. But in the shorter term, the rookie is seemingly pushing RB Kenneth Gainwell for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. A Saquon Barkley injury could turn Shipley into a fantasy factor this season. He's worth a look at the very end of fantasy drafts of 18+ rounds.
