Patriots QB Drake Maye struggled throughout the first day with contact at training camp. QB Jacoby Brissett drew rave reviews and continues to lead the QB competition.
Mark Daniels: "Drake Maye had his worst outing of training camp. The No. 3 overall pick went 3-of-11 with an interception and was plagued by accuracy issues throughout the session.
Brissett went 8-of-9 in full-team drills with his only incomplete pass hitting the fingertips of Ja’Lynn Polk. He also went 4-of-6 in 7-on-7 drills and overall, completed 12-of-14 passes in this competitive session."
Maye needed to impress if he wanted to catch Brissett in the early parts of the QB competition, but it was a rough day for the rookie.
This makes it more likely for Brissett to start the season, limiting Maye's redraft ADP severely. We currently project Brissett to start two games for the Patriots.
Inconsistency for a rookie QB, even one who went third overall, is typical this early in camp. Maye will need to bounce back with a strong preseason to have a chance to start the year.
Keep an eye on the QB battle throughout the preseason to see if Maye improves.
