Bucs WR Jalen McMillan has been a standout early in training camp and is in the lead for the No. 3 WR job, according to Pewter Report. WR Trey Palmer is McMillan's primary competition for that No. 3 spot.
HC Todd Bowles on McMillan: “He’s very smart, he’s very competitive, and he has a motor that doesn’t stop. That’s only going to help us. I think we’re still unwrapping the things he can do to put in the offense to help us. We get a good two or three weeks in, you’ll see more of that.”
QB Baker Mayfield: "Jalen McMillan is a young stud and I think he’s got a ton of potential."
McMillan faces a tough path to 2024 fantasy relevance, even if he holds off Palmer for that No. 3 WR job. WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are target hogs, and TE Cade Otton and RB Rachaad White might also remain ahead of McMillan in the pecking order.
The rookie is certainly a name to keep in mind, though, if Evans or Godwin miss time with injury this season. That could turn McMillan into a spot-start option.
Godwin is entering the final season of his contract, and McMillan looks like a potential replacement with his inside-outside versatility. The Washington product was limited by injuries last year but notably out-produced Patriots second-round pick Ja'Lynn Polk in 2022. McMillan even caught more balls (79) and scored more TDs (9) than Bears first-rounder Rome Odunze that year.
