Saints TE Juwan Johnson was on the field before and after Friday's practice, catching passes from a Jugs machine, according to New Orleans Football Network. Johnson remains on the PUP list and isn't practicing after undergoing foot surgery about a month ago. But he wasn't favoring that foot and didn't appear to be wearing any extra protection.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported shortly after Johnson's foot surgery that "the hope and belief for now is that he will be back for the start of the season." It looks like Johnson is on track to make that happen.
A healthy Johnson remains a good bet to operate as New Orleans' lead TE. He's finished 17th and 22nd among TEs in PPR points per game the past two seasons and shouldn't be considered more than a TE2 heading into 2024. But Johnson's best-ball ADP has sunk all the way to 26th among TEs since news of his foot injury. He's a fine value at that price.
We never docked Johnson any games in our 2024 projections and continue to expect him to be ready for Week 1. He checks in 22nd in the PPR TE rankings.
