Packers QB Jordan Love will not hit the field in training camp without a new contract. Love inked a one-year extension through 2024 last offseason but is looking for a raise after a breakout 2023 campaign. GM Brian Gutekunst believes the two sides are close to an agreement.
What They're Saying
"I feel we're close, but no real timetables as far as how long it's going to take," Gutekunst said of the contract negotiations with Love. "We're working really hard to get that done. I think it's really important for us. At the same time, the thing that I have confidence in is that we both want the same thing. We want Jordan here for a long time, give him that stability for him, and it gives us some stability for our group as well. … I'm optimistic. These are big deals. It takes time. They're not as easy as some people may think."
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo believes "it shouldn't take very long" for this deal to get done.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
It's never ideal for a player to miss camp reps, especially a young, relatively inexperienced player like Love. But it's too early to believe this will impact his 2024 season. Love is returning to the same offense with a very similar supporting cast this year. We won't change his spot in the QB rankings unless this situation spills well into August.
Love is coming off a strong 2023 campaign -- his first as Green Bay's full-time starter. He finished ninth among QBs in fantasy points per game and was especially impressive over the second half of the season. Here's where Love ranked in key metrics across the final eight games:
- first in passing yards
- second in passing TDs
- third in completion rate
- 10th in yards per attempt
- first in Pro Football Focus passing grade
- first in fantasy points
