The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue expects Rams TE Colby Parkinson to have a "big role in this next iteration of [Sean] McVay's offense.” The 25-year-old spent his first four seasons in Seattle, totaling 57 catches, 618 yards, and 4 TDs. Back in March, he signed a three-year contract with a surprising $15.5 million guaranteed.
Here’s McVay on the new TE back in June.
“What a special person first and foremost,” he said. “And then you see the size really from our tight end group as a whole. But he's definitely going to add real value. We're looking forward to being able to getting the pads on and playing real football when we can kind of get a little bit better evaluation in a full speed setting. But the size, the instincts, just the overall character, we're certainly excited about him.”
Tyler Higbee suffered a torn ACL in mid- January, so he’ll likely land on the PUP list. His absence would remove nearly 5 targets per game from the 2023 offense.
Minus Higbee, this unit is down to Parkinson and Davis Allen, a '23 Round 5 pick. His rookie year turned up 10 catches, 95 yards, and 1 score.
Keep in mind that Parkinson (6'7, 251) excels as a blocker. Just last year, he ranked 8th in a sample of 83 TEs in Pro Football Focus' run blocking grade. So his contributions to the Rams won't always translate to fantasy.
It might take a spike in TDs from Matt Stafford -- see 2021 -- but there's a path to some deep league fantasy value here.
