Falcons QB Kirk Cousins did some light jogging and throwing at Tuesday's OTA session. It's a positive sign as he works back from his October 29 Achilles tear. With about four months to go before the season opener, Cousins is seemingly on track to be cleared for Week 1.
"It's coming along really well. Today I felt the best I've felt," Cousins said. "I wasn't sure when I stood here in March -- and I had just gotten here -- how much I'd be able to do at practice, but today I felt I was able to do everything I would have normally done. That's big for that stuff I talked about initially: building continuity, getting shared history together ... excited to see how fast we can heal from here."
Despite the addition of first-round rookie QB Michael Penix, Cousins will be under center for Atlanta as soon as he's medically cleared. The 35-year-old showed no signs of decline before that Achilles injury last year, completing 69.5% of his passes at 7.5 yards per attempt. Cousins ranked fourth among 30 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus passing grade.
The Achilles obviously adds some risk to Cousins' 2024 fantasy outlook. But with an arsenal of WR Drake London, TE Kyle Pitts, and RB Bijan Robinson -- and a new, pass-leaning play caller -- Cousins is certainly capable of providing spot-start QB1 production this season.
