Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo says Bills WR Gabriel Davis is "very much in question" for Monday night's game vs. the Titans. Davis sprained his ankle on a non-contact play in Saturday's practice, per Garafolo. Unless you have another strong option in 1 of the 2 Monday night games to replace Davis, we'd lean toward putting him on your bench this week.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms that Jaguars RBs Travis Etienne and James Robinson will continue splitting carries vs. the Colts today. Robinson out-carried Etienne 11 to 4 in the opener, but Etienne actually played 2 more snaps. Expect the carry split to be much closer to 50/50 today. Rapoport adds that there will be "a little more emphasis on the run" against Indianapolis.
Bills WR Gabriel Davis is questionable for Monday night's game against the Titans. Buffalo added him to the injury report Saturday after he sustained an ankle injury Saturday that limited his participation. Let's hope we get a status update before the Sunday games, otherwise we might have to start others over the uncertainty of Davis. Isaiah McKenzie, Jamison Crowder and Khalil Shakir stand as potential contingency plans among Buffalo wideouts, with Robert Woods, Kyle Philips and Treylon Burks in play among Titans -- plus the WRs in Monday night's Eagles-Vikings game, which kicks off after Bills-Titans.
Patriots QB Mac Jones (back, illness) isn’t listed on the final Week 2 injury report. He put in full practices on Wednesday and Friday, missing Thursday’s practice with an illness. Jones should be at least close to 100% for Sunday’s game vs. the Steelers but is just a low-end QB2 in fantasy.
Bears WR Velus Jones (hamstring) is doubtful for Sunday night’s game vs. the Packers. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice but sidelined on Thursday and Friday, so it looks like the rookie suffered a setback. Darnell Mooney, Equanimeous St. Brown and Dante Pettis operated as Chicago’s top 3 WRs in the opener.
Patriots QB Mac Jones (back spasms) put in a full practice on Wednesday. He'll be fine for this weekend's game vs. the Steelers but is an unexciting QB2 in a struggling New England offense.
Patriots QB Mac Jones dealt with back spasms during or after Sunday's loss in Miami, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's relatively good news, although Rapoport adds that Jones has a "chance" to play this week. It sounds like we'll need to keep a close eye on him throughout the week. If Jones is unable to play vs. the Steelers on Sunday, New England would turn to QB Brian Hoyer.
Jags TE Evan Engram posted only 28 yards on 4 grabs in Sunday’s loss at Washington. Encouragingly, he ran a route on 78% of Trevor Lawrence’s dropbacks. But the veteran TE mustered only 4 targets — a 9.5% share. Ultimately, it’s far too early to make any sweeping conclusions about this offense after just 1 game under HC Doug Pederson. Next up is a matchup with a Colts defense that just allowed a pair of scores to Texans TE O.J. Howard.
Jags WR Christian Kirk finished Week 1 with a team-high 117 yards on 6 catches. He saw a hefty 28.5% target share. After a slow start, Kirk’s production really picked up in the 2nd half. The highlight was a 49-yard deep ball that showed Kirk’s impressive route-running and ability to track the ball. Trevor Lawrence’s play wasn’t exactly consistent in this one, but consider that Sunday was the first game alongside new HC Doug Pederson. Next up is a divisional showdown with the Colts.
Jags RB Travis Etienne rushed only 4 times for 47 yards in Sunday’s loss to Washington. He added 2 catches on 4 targets but missed out on a potential TD when he dropped a pass near the goal line. The 2nd-year back was also overthrown by Trevor Lawrence in the end zone. Beyond the tough-luck result, it’s certainly concerning that James Robinson out-carried Etienne 11-4. And shockingly, Robinson (Achilles') already looked back to pre-injury form. Next up is a home date with Indianapolis.
Jags QB Trevor Lawrence completed 24 of 42 passes for 275 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT in a Week 1 loss at Washington. The so-so fantasy line should have been better, as the 2nd-year passer overthrew Travis Etienne in the end zone. Later, Etienne dropped a ball just shy of the goal line. Lawrence’s lone TD went to James Robinson. Expect Lawrence to remain a QB2 for Sunday’s game against Indy.
The Patriots announced that QB Mac Jones has a back injury. He was not made available to the media after the game and was seen heading for X-rays. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that those came back clean. We'll update Jones' status as soon as we know more. QB Brian Hoyer is New England's backup.
Bears WR Velus Jones (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game vs. the 49ers. Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown figure to operate as the #2 and #3 WRs behind Darnell Mooney.
Bears WR Velus Jones (hamstring) didn't practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game vs. the 49ers. Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown figure to operate as the #2 and #3 WRs behind Darnell Mooney.
Bears WR Velus Jones (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday. The rookie's availability for this weekend's opener vs. the 49ers is in doubt -- but he shouldn't have been in your plans anyway. WR Byron Pringle, who missed time in August, isn't on the Week 1 injury report.
ESPN's Michael DiRocco calls TE Evan Engram "one of the focal points" of the Jaguars' offense. We heard the same from insider Hays Carlyon on the Draft Sharks podcast in early August. Engram remains 1 of the best TE values in fantasy drafts.
Patriots QB Mac Jones and the 1st-team offense had another rough outing in Friday night's preseason finale. Jones completed 9 of 13 passes for 71 yards (5.5 YPA), 0 TDs and 1 INT across 4 series. The possessions went: 3-and-out, INT, 3-and-out, FG. The offense reportedly struggled throughout training camp, too, looking uncomfortable in the Josh McDaniels-less system. Pass protection has also been a problem. It'll be tough to trust any piece of this Patriots passing game in early-season fantasy lineups.
Jaguars rookie LB Devin Lloyd has worked only on the side throughout training camp because of a hamstring injury. The Athletic reports that HC Doug Pederson thinks he might be ready for full-team work by Saturday's game against the Steelers. We'll see about Lloyd's progress through the rest of August. For now, he's an upside flier late in IDP drafts.
ESPN's Mike Reiss reports that QB Mac Jones "and most Patriots starters" aren't expected to play in tonight's preseason opener against the Giants. It would be nice to see Jones in action amid negative camp reviews, but we'll have to wait.
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence says left-shoulder surgery last February kept him from getting into optimal shape in his rookie season. "I didn't really feel like I could get my body in shape the way I wanted," he said at a Monday press conference. "I was in shape, but as far as my arm, I would've liked to be a little sharper. I feel like my arm got a lot stronger this offseason." That's good to hear from a 2nd-year QB whose upside we already liked. Jacksonville's upgrades to the coaching staff and surrounding talent make Lawrence an intriguing pick anywhere in QB2 territory of fantasy football drafts.
