Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Bears RB David Montgomery is expected to miss 4-5 weeks with a sprained knee, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports. Chicago has a Week 10 bye, so it's possible that we don't see Montgomery again until Week 11. He was looking like a high-end RB2 before going down, so we'd try to keep him stashed on fantasy benches. Damien Williams is set to take over as Chicago's lead back, assuming his quad injury doesn't keep him out. Rookie Khalil Herbert is now #2 on the depth chart. Remember, too, that RB Tarik Cohen (ACL) is eligible to come off the PUP list in Week 7.
Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis left in the 2nd quarter of Sunday night's game at New England with a leg injury. Davis went down holding his left quad and then needed 2 trainers to help him off the field. He was putting no weight on the affected leg. We'll see about the diagnosis for Davis.
The Lions fear that EDGE Romeo Okwara tore his left Achilles' tendon in Sunday's loss to the Bears. If confirmed, that would end his season and take away Detroit's lead pass rusher. We'll watch for that confirmation.
The "initial belief based on early tests" is that Bears RB David Montgomery's knee injury is not major, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Montgomery hyperextended the knee and is set for an MRI on Monday. We should get a more concrete diagnosis then. Damien Williams will step in as Chicago's lead back if Montgomery misses time.
Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis is active for tonight's game against the Patriots. He turned up questionable late Saturday but is good to go.
Bears RB David Montgomery appeared to injure his left knee in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Lions. He was in obvious pain and limped slowly off the field. Stay tuned for an update. RB Damien Williams is Chicago's backup.
Lions EDGE Romeo Okwara (shoulder) and DL Michael Brockers (shoulder) are active for today's game against the Bears.
The Buccaneers have downgraded CB Carlton Davis to questionable for Sunday night's game against the Patriots. He's listed with rib and abdominal injuries, but it sounds like the ab injury is the more significant. If Davis sits, it'll leave Tampa without its top 3 corners. Sean Murphy-Bunting is already on IR with an elbow injury, and the Bucs ruled Jamel Dean out for the game with a knee injury. Richard Sherman is now expected to start, just a few days after signing with the team. The whole situation can only be good news for New England wideouts.
Packers OLB Za'Darius Smith had back surgery this week and will miss "an extended period of time," according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. There's reportedly "hope" that Smith's season is not over, but that phrasing means it could be. Smith is safe to drop in nearly all IDP redraft formats, in case you had been hanging on to him. His continued absence leaves Preston Smith and Rashan Gary as Green Bay's top 2 on the edge.
Lions EDGE Trey Flowers (shoulder, knee), DL Michael Brockers (shoulder) and EDGE Romeo Okwara (shoulder) are all questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Flowers missed practice all week and probably shouldn't be in IDP lineups even if he plays. Okwara and Brockers each put in limited practices all week. We'll update the status on all 3 Sunday morning. Detroit has already ruled out LB Jamie Collins after confirming that they're trying to trade the veteran. That should clear the way for rookie LB Derrick Barnes to get his 1st start, though we'd like to see the size of his role before considering him for IDP lineups.
Lions WR Kalif Raymond (thigh) is active for tonight's game against the Packers. He was added to the injury report on Saturday and listed as questionable, so there's some added risk here. With WR Tyrell Williams (concussion) out, it's Raymond, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Quintez Cephus and Trinity Benson at WR for Detroit.
Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis (hamstring) is active for today’s game against the Falcons. He’ll carry some elevated risk but also upside vs. Calvin Ridley
Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis is questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons with a hamstring injury. The team added him to the injury report Friday, when he was limited. So it's a new issue. We'll check Davis' status Sunday morning. The Bucs are already down starting CB Sean Murphy-Bunting (elbow; IR).
The Packers are placing OLB Za'Darius Smith on IR for the back injury that dogged him throughout the summer and limited his Week 1 playing time. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the team hopes a few weeks of rest will allow Smith to return at full strength, rather than having him manage the back issue throughout the season. Smith's absence will mean more playing time on the edges for Rashan Gary and Jonathan Garvin. Gary -- a 1st-round pick in 2019 -- was already viewed as a potential breakout performer for Green Bay this year, after coming on for 5 sacks in a limited role in 2020. He's worth a look in deeper IDP leagues that favor sack/pressure scoring.
Saints DE Marcus Davenport strained a pectoral muscle in Sunday's win over the Packers. "He'll miss some time, but should be back sooner rather than later," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says. Whether the team places Davenport on IR should tell us more about when he might actually return. DE Carl Granderson looks like the next man up for New Orleans, with Tanoh Kpassagnon right there as well. First-round rookie Payton Turner was a healthy scratch in Week 1 and doesn't look like he'll be in the picture yet.
Saints DE Marcus Davenport came away from Sunday's opener with a pectoral injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The team is reportedly awaiting results of an MRI, so we'll see about the severity.
Bears RB David Montgomery headed to the locker room in the 3rd quarter of Sunday night's game against the Rams. Montgomery appeared to have some issue with his right hand. We'll watch for reports.
Update: Montgomery returned shortly thereafter and completed the game
Packers OLB Za’Darius Smith is active for today’s game against the Saints. He entered questionable with a back issue and could be limited. But there’s IDP upside for the pass rusher vs. Jamie’s Winston
Packers OLB Za’Darius Smith will play today against the Saints, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Smith is officially questionable with a back issue that kept him out through most of August. We’d still try to not use him in IDP leagues, but his presence is good news for the Green Bay defense
Packers OLB Za'Darius Smith is questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints. He was limited Wednesday and Thursday with his back injury but finished the week sitting out Friday. He's not a good bet or IDP lineups even if he turns up active.
