Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. recorded a team-leading 9 catches on 11 targets for 77 yards vs. the Ravens in Week 3. We expected some good production from him, but hello, rookie WR Josh Downs! The first-year wideout had a solid breakout performance, logging 8 catches on 12 targets for 57 receiving yards in the contest. He’d been second on the Colts in targets so far this year, though this is the first game all year where Downs’ involvement translated to the box score. He’ll be a fun name to add off of the waiver wire this week in advance of Week 4 vs. the Rams.
Colts RB Zack Moss once again dominated the workload on Sunday, carrying the ball 30 times for 112 rushing yards to go along with a 17-yard receiving TD in Week 3 vs. the Ravens. Teammate Trey Sermon provided some relief with 5 carries for 17 yards and 1 catch for 4 receiving yards. This is the Zack Moss Show until Jonathan Taylor gets activated off of IR. Fantasy managers who took a shot on the veteran back are being rewarded handsomely. Moss will be an exciting start again next week against the Rams.
Colts QB Gardner Minshew completed 27 passes on 44 attempts for 227 yards and 1 TD in Week 3 vs. the Ravens. Those who needed a spot starter in 2QB or superflex leagues can’t be too upset with the results from Sunday’s OT win, though Minshew wasn’t anything special. Hopefully, rookie QB Anthony Richardson will be back under center for Indianapolis in Week 4 vs. the Rams.
Saints QB Derek Carr was taken to a local hospital for additional testing after exiting Sunday's game vs. the Packers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "They will check for, among other things, internal injuries," Rapoport adds. We'll update Carr's status when we learn more. He was replaced in Green bay by QB Jameis Winston, who finished 10-of-16 for 101 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 INTs.
Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne recorded 4 catches on 5 targets for 46 yards in Week 3’s win vs. the Jets. Both WR DeVante Parker and TE Hunter Henry had some involvement but ultimately flopped with just 2 catches apiece. Helping no one in fantasy, TE Pharaoh Brown led the team in receiving with 71 yards on 2 catches. One of those catches from Brown was the only offensive TD scored by New England. This one was just one of those unlucky games in crummy weather where the Pats didn’t need to throw a ton to pull out the W. Fantasy managers should hope for better results from these receivers next week vs. the Cowboys.
Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson carried the ball 19 times for 59 yards in Week 3 vs. the Jets. By the contest’s end, Stevenson had just 1 catch on 4 targets for 3 yards. On Sunday, Teammate Ezekiel Elliott had some standalone value with 16 carries for 80 yards. This was a bit of a disappointing outing for Stevenson, though the weather and the fact that the Patriots led the way for most of the game justifies some of why Elliott was so involved. Next up for the duo is a Week 4 matchup vs. the Cowboys.
Chargers WR Mike Williams rode a cart to the bus with his left leg in a brace after Sunday's win over the Vikings, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Williams is scheduled for a Monday MRI, but this obviously looks like a serious injury. We should learn more tomorrow.
Patriots QB Mac Jones completed 15 of 29 passes for 201 yards with 1 TD and no INTs in Week 3’s win vs. the Jets. He also added 13 rushing yards on 4 carries in the contest. Between the bad weather and the Jets’ offense playing poorly, Jones didn’t have to accomplish much to help secure the W. Next week, he’ll have a tough matchup against the Cowboys.
Jets WR Garrett Wilson hauled in 5 catches on 9 targets for 48 receiving yards in Week 3 vs. the Patriots. There’s a realistic chance that he’s the only player on the Jets that can be useable for fantasy purposes at this point. This is a very anemic offense with QB Zach Wilson at the helm. We’ll see what they can put together in Week 4 against the Chiefs.
The Jets’ backfield is ugly. RBs Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook each tallied 18 rushing yards on 12 and 8 carries, respectively. Neither player is getting it done for fantasy managers right now. Next week’s matchup vs. the Chiefs isn’t going to be any easier. Both Hall and Cook will be flex considerations in deeper leagues for now, though expectations shouldn’t be high for either.
Falcons TE Kyle Pitts led the team in Week 3 with nine targets -- the second most of his career. He caught five of them but totaled just 41 yards. QB Desmond Ridder looked Pitts' way downfield a few times, but the duo was unable to connect. Another frustrating outing for the talented TE. Pitts has at least seen 14 targets over the last two weeks, which is enough to support him as a low-end TE1. But he needs to get better QB play -- and better play calling -- if he's going to come close to reaching his fantasy ceiling.
Jets QB Zach Wilson completed 18 of 36 passes for 157 yards with no TDs or INTs in Week 3’s loss vs. the Patriots. There’s no reason he should be in lineups outside the deepest of 2QB or superflex leagues. The young signal-caller will remain off the fantasy radar in Week 4 vs. the Chiefs.
Falcons RBs Bijan Robinson (10-33-0) and Tyler Allgeier (7-12-0) combined for just 55 yards on 17 carries in Sunday's loss to the Lions. Robinson's 11-yarder was the team's longest run of the game. The rookie at least salvaged his fantasy day with four catches on six targets for 27 yards. But it was a surprisingly ineffective day for one of the league's best running games. It's worth noting that Detroit entered Week 3 ranked 13th in run defense DVOA, so perhaps the Lions aren't a matchup to necessarily attack going forward. We're not overly concerned about the Falcons RBs, though. Robinson remains an every-week RB1, while Allgeier is a RB3 or flex that will produce better numbers when Atlanta plays with the lead.
Titans QB Ryan Tannehill struggled to deal with pressure in Week 3, taking five sacks – including 3.5 from EDGE Myles Garrett. The veteran completed just 13 of 25 passes for 104 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 INTs. He's now tallied only 1 passing score through 3 games. He's tough to trust as anything more than a low-end QB2 right now. Next up is a home showdown with the Bengals.
Titans RB Derrick Henry managed only 20 yards on 11 attempts in a Week 3 loss. Even against a stout Cleveland defense, this outcome was tough to anticipate. Henry’s yardage marked his lowest output since 2017. The Titans’ O-line remains an issue, but Henry’s volume will keep him in the RB1 mix next week vs. Cincinnati.
Browns RB Jerome Ford racked up two TDs in Week 3. Entering a tough matchup with Tennessee, the second-year back mustered only 1.8 YPC on 10 attempts. But he cashed in with one goal line score – and added a downfield TD catch while split out wide. Ford will remain on the RB2/FLEX radar for a Week 4 date with Baltimore. Note that Kareem Hunt mixed in for 5 carries (3 targets) in his 2023 debut.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson passed for 289 yards and 2 TDs in a Week 3 win over Tennessee. Watson completed 81.8% of his passes on a day that found Cleveland accomplish little on the ground. He leaned on Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore, with the duo combining for a 51.5% target share. Watson hosts the Ravens for Week 4 before entering a Week 5 bye.
Vikings WR Justin Jefferson suffered an apparent right knee injury late in Sunday's game vs. the Chargers. Jefferson was able to walk off the field under his own power. We'll update his status as soon as we know more.
Update: Jefferson was reportedly cramping and has already returned to the game. Exhale!
Ravens RB Gus Edwards left to get checked for a concussion in the second half of Sunday's game vs. the Colts. That leaves the backfield to Melvin Gordon and Kenyan Drake. We'll update Edwards' status when we know more.
Chiefs LB Willie Gay Jr. (quad) is active for today's game against the Bears.
