Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo was knocked out of Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks with a concussion. We'll track his progress through the protocol this coming week. His absence should mean more snaps for WR D.J. Chark.
Saints WR Chris Olave snagged 8 receptions for 104 yards in Sunday's loss to the Packers. His 11 targets made up 32.3% of the team's total pass attempts and spanned across the injury-driven QB change. He has exceeded 100 yards in two of three games (with 86 in the other) and drawn 10+ targets in each game. Olave makes for a strong weekly starter going forward, regardless of the QB situation. WR Michael Thomas was the only other Saint to top 4 targets in the game. He posted a 6-50 receiving line on 9 targets. TE Jimmy Graham caught the team's only TD, from 8 yards out. New Orleans gets a home date in Week 4 with a Tampa Bay defense that plays the run tougher than the pass. We'll see which QB starts that game.
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa was surgical in Week 3, completing 23 of 26 passes for 309 yards and 4 TDs. The Broncos missed a couple of key defenders, but they were simply dominated in this one. And that was with Tua missing Jaylen Waddle (concussion). His scores went to Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert, and Devon Achane. A top-3 fantasy QB on the year, Tua travels to Buffalo for Week 4.
Lions TE Sam LaPorta went off for eight catches on 11 targets for 84 yards and a score in Sunday's win over the Falcons. A big chunk of that production came on a blown coverage that resulted in an easy 45-yard score. But LaPorta's 11 targets were second on the team behind only WR Amon-Ra St. Brown's 12 and were a huge 33.3% of the team total. LaPorta now has 22 targets through three games. And his 18 catches are the most ever by a rookie TE through his first three games. LaPorta is an easy weekly starter and has a chance to finish the season as a top-six fantasy TE.
Jaguars TE Evan Engram hauled in 7 of 8 targets for a team-leading 67 receiving yards in Sunday’s loss vs. the Texans. Teammate WR Christian Kirk struggled for much of the contest before finding the end zone on a 26-yard dart. Perhaps the biggest concern from Week 3 is WR Calvin Ridley. The veteran only roped in 3 of 7 targets for 40 yards and dropped two passes in the end zone. This is the second week in a row that Ridley and QB Trevor Lawrence failed to get on the same page, despite abundant efforts. We’re starting to get a little nervous about this offense headed toward Week 4 vs. the Falcons.
Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs racked up 17 carries in Sunday's win over the Falcons vs. just seven total for RBs Craig Reynolds and Zonovan Knight. The rookie totaled 80 rushing yards for a solid 4.7 yards per carry. But he didn't find the end zone, despite three carries inside the Atlanta 10-yard line. And Gibbs surprisingly caught just one of two targets for two yards. It was an underwhelming fantasy outing but encouraging usage. If RB David Montgomery remains out for Week 4, Gibbs will again land in RB1 territory in our rankings.
Saints rookie RB Kendre Miller made his NFL debut Sunday against the Packers after missing the first two games with a hamstring injury. Miller wound up leading the team in carries (9) and rushing yards (34). But he ceded another 8 carries to RB Tony Jones Jr. and trailed Jones 4-1 in targets. Miller caught his only target for no gain. Jones finished with an 8-31 rushing line and 4-21 receiving. Jones got the first carry and saw all four of his targets in the first half. But Miller drew 7 of the team's 13 first-half carries to lead the way. With Alvin Kamara returning from his suspension in Week 4, don't expect any other Saints RB to help your fantasy football lineup.
Jaguars RB Travis Etienne shined as the lone bright spot for this offense in Week 3. The third-year pro compiled 138 total yards across 19 carries and 4 catches vs. the Texans. Etienne continues to face little backfield competition from his teammates Tank Bigsby (2 carries, 10 yards, 1 TD) and D’Ernest Johnson (3 carries, 6 yards) and should figure to have another good game next week vs. the Falcons. It remains to be seen if we can say the same about any of his skill-position teammates. This Jacksonville offense is experiencing major troubles thus far in 2023.
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence completed 27 passes on 40 attempts for 279 yards with 1 TD and INT apiece in Week 3’s loss vs. the Texans. Something just isn’t clicking with this Jacksonville offense so far this season. Lawrence is now averaging 13.78 fantasy points per game through three weeks. We’d figured the Texans wouldn’t be such a tough obstacle for the Jaguars, so these results are pretty jarring. We’ll see if they can put anything together in Week 4 vs. the Falcons, though it might be time for legitimate concern.
Falcons WR Drake London mustered just two catches for 31 yards in Sunday's loss to the Lions. It was a dud from the entire offense, which posted just six points and 183 total net yards. That, of course, is the downside with London. He's now sandwiched a nice Week 2 with a couple of turds. London will continue to be an inconsistent fantasy option who figures to produce better when Atlanta plays from behind (although that wasn't the case today). Week 4 brings a game in Jacksonville that could find the Falcons playing catch-up.
Texans rookie WR Nathaniel ‘Tank’ Dell had himself a day with a team-leading 5 catches on 7 targets for 145 yards in Week 3 vs. the Jaguars. Teammates Nico Collins and Robert Woods struggled in this contest, each recording 34 receiving yards apiece on a combined 5 catches. These results are certainly disappointing for fantasy managers. The good news, however, is that this Houston offense seems pretty darn good with QB C.J. Stroud at the helm. Despite leading the whole game, the Texans chucked the ball 30 times. That type of continued passing volume is fantastic to see for fantasy managers. This will be an exciting unit to watch next week vs. the Steelers.
Texans RB Dameon Pierce found paydirt in Week 3 vs. the Jaguars with 14 carries for 31 yards and 1 rushing TD. The second-year back ceded a concerning amount of work to teammate Devin Singletary (9 carries, 41 yards), however. The big thing Pierce had going for him entering the contest was his 61.5% workshare of the Texans' RB touch opportunities. The narrowing of that split between himself and Singletary should raise an eyebrow ahead of their next matchup vs. the Steelers in Week 4.
Texans QB C.J. Stroud tallied 20 completions on 30 attempts for 280 and 2 TDs in Week 3’s surprise victory over the Jaguars. The rookie signal-caller is starting to heat up, and it seems fairly evident that the Houston offense is committed to throwing the ball. This is a team that held a lead throughout the entire contest and still recorded 30 pass attempts. At this rate of volume, Stroud may be sneaking his way up the list for streaming considerations in 1QB leagues. We’ll see what this bunch can accomplish next week in a tough test against the Steelers.
Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert enjoyed a career day against the Broncos. Seeing 20 touches — including a career-high 7 catches — Mostert rolled up 142 total yards and 4 scores. He became the fifth RB in league history with more than one career game of four scores. Denver’s defense essentially didn’t show up in this one, as Miami’s O-line consistently opened up huge holes. The Fins raced out to a big lead and wound up winning 70-20. Devon Achane enjoyed a massive day, too, taking 18 carries for 203 yards and 3 scores, looking explosive in the process. Miami will face a much stiffer test Sunday at Buffalo, but Mostert will remain a strong fantasy option.
Ravens WR Zay Flowers recorded team-highs in targets (10), catches (8), and receiving yards (48) in Sunday’s OT loss vs. the Colts. TE Mark Andrews saw some action as well, hauling in 4 of 5 targets for 45 yards in the Week 3 contest. The Ravens’ aerial attack hasn’t come out in full force yet this season, though both Flowers and Andrews have had solid fantasy relevance. The duo will look to continue their successes next week vs. the Browns.
Ravens RB Gus Edwards carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards before leaving Week 3 with a concussion. Teammate Melvin Gordon III came in relief to record 32 yards on 10 carries. The Edwards injury was a big blow to Baltimore, a team that was already without RB Justice Hill due to a foot injury. Fantasy managers will have to keep an eye on the injury reports this week to see who is healthy enough to suit up in Week 4 vs. the Browns.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson made good use of his rushing ability on Sunday, leading the Ravens in rushing with 101 yards and 2 TDs on 14 carries vs. the Colts. He also completed 22 of 31 passes for 202 yards through the air in the Week 3 OT loss. The Ravens still have yet to record a ton of damage through the air this season, but it’s always great any time Jackson’s legs rack up that many fantasy points. Next up on the schedule for Jackson and company is a divisional bout against the Browns in Week 4.
Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. recorded a team-leading 9 catches on 11 targets for 77 yards vs. the Ravens in Week 3. We expected some good production from him, but hello, rookie WR Josh Downs! The first-year wideout had a solid breakout performance, logging 8 catches on 12 targets for 57 receiving yards in the contest. He’d been second on the Colts in targets so far this year, though this is the first game all year where Downs’ involvement translated to the box score. He’ll be a fun name to add off of the waiver wire this week in advance of Week 4 vs. the Rams.
Colts RB Zack Moss once again dominated the workload on Sunday, carrying the ball 30 times for 112 rushing yards to go along with a 17-yard receiving TD in Week 3 vs. the Ravens. Teammate Trey Sermon provided some relief with 5 carries for 17 yards and 1 catch for 4 receiving yards. This is the Zack Moss Show until Jonathan Taylor gets activated off of IR. Fantasy managers who took a shot on the veteran back are being rewarded handsomely. Moss will be an exciting start again next week against the Rams.
Colts QB Gardner Minshew completed 27 passes on 44 attempts for 227 yards and 1 TD in Week 3 vs. the Ravens. Those who needed a spot starter in 2QB or superflex leagues can’t be too upset with the results from Sunday’s OT win, though Minshew wasn’t anything special. Hopefully, rookie QB Anthony Richardson will be back under center for Indianapolis in Week 4 vs. the Rams.
